Writing a powerful thank you note.

I was raised writing thank you's. The old school thank you note for every gift and every nice gesture. It is just what we did. Who knew that I could use this with in my business. I recently went to a workshop titled "Unlock the potential of your Board to sustain your organization" presented by: Susan Howlett. At this workshop one of the topics she emphasized the effect of a powerful thank you in your organization. It really brought me back to my roots and was such a great reminder that this needs to happen. How many of us love getting a card in the mail? How refreshing is it to get a hand written note that is not a bill or a piece of junk mail. I know I do. It always brings a smile to my face.

The key is to take the time to hand write the notes. I know we are all busy with life  so Susan Howlett brought up a few great tips on writing thank yous... Whether you are a business, board of directors, group of volunteers these tips might just help!

  1. Carry a stack on post its. Write thank you's and you can stick them in cards when you get back in the office!
  2. Take a stack of cards to your board and each of you can write out a handful of the thank yous directed to your donors.
  3. Emphasize what the gesture meant to you.

Take a moment and ask yourself how do I thank my clients?
